Big Data Marketing – CMO -v- CIO

Lisa Arthur, author of Big Data Marketing, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at Teradata Applications, will be speaking at the Teradata Marketing Summit March 10-13, 2014.

In Chapter 4 (Definitions for the Real Word of Big Data Marketing) Arthur states that she “wasn’t surprised when [she] heard Gartner analyst Laura McLellan predict that by 2017, CMOs will spend more in IT than their counterpart, chief information officers (CIOs)… Why?  Because marketing is becoming increasingly technology-based, and harnessing and mastering big data is now absolutely necessary for achieving competitive advantage.”

So, this leaves me still pondering the questions:

How many UK universities currently offer courses in Big Data and Big Data Marketing and how will the UK fill this potential skills gap?
